Notes I took while exploring Facebook for the first time in ~8 months
- I see the appeal
- Defining yourself in a Facebook profile is a different type of self-focus (narcissism) than an uncaptioned photo of your face to Tumblr
- There is more information than I want
- It’s fun to look at new pictures of people you haven’t seen in a while
- I feel guilty deleting friends
- Everyone seems so normal; this is not the place to live a fantasy. Facebook = who I am, MySpace = who I want to be
- How do I decide if I am friends with someone, or not?
- Is this person I knew in the 1990s attractive in 2008?
- Lots of people have a picture of Obama’s face instead of their own
- One person in two pictures can look like two people
- Does she know her smile isn’t fooling anyone?
- Old friends’ lives go on without me
- Wondering how much you can tell about a person by looking at their face
- This site really is about FACES
- Politically, almost everyone I see is some version of “liberal”. Maybe 10% are libertarian.
- Looking around Facebook is a good “brain-off” activity, sort of like a hobby
oh man facebook better then myspace but it’s no flickr
